This post is so helpful. I've been roaming around the web to figure out how to do exactly that. Well, I found a nice chunky turtleneck on sale for $10 at the Gap, and everything but the width was acceptable. I was wondering if turning it into a cardigan is possible, and evidently it is. Thanks.

I love the transformation. Next time you get ready to cut, this might come in handy: http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/01/the_steeking_chronicles_part_i.html

The part on crochet steeks is AMAZING (I'm still working up the nerve to actually try it!)

wow. I am speechless. That is simply amazing. I loveeee the afters! Thank you SOO much for posting a Tute. I just have a question. When you say pick up stitches for the buttom band, you mean pick up in the purl 'ladders' between each knit stitch? I have my first sweater that I have been meaning to re-knit (the upper region us huge and shapeless and it is too short and the neckline is baggy) but if I could simply revamp.....wow. You just gave me a lot of inspiration!

Very impressive! Both the new sweaters are absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing the process. :) I may have to perform the same surgery on my first sweater!
