Do you have any idea how to line a knit stocking so gifts don't catch on the yarn? Maybe a stretch jersey fabric, but then how do I attach it? Thanks in advance!

My husband's family have Bernat Christmas Stockings - my husband received his from his grandmother 57 years ago! Grandma Marge made them for all over her grandchildren (9 in my husband's family alone) My mother-in-law has made them for all of her grandchildren (23) and 1 great-grandchild, plus all of us in-laws! I've made them for my grandchildren and children. The variations are: first band - white with red name; second band: red with three green Christmas trees; third band: green with two white candles on red candleholders; fourth band: white with green wreath. After that, the rest of the stocking (heel and toe) are exactly the same. After it's all knit and blocked, but before sewn together, we "decorate" the tree with sequins and the wreath with "yule berries" and a red bow.

My husband's stocking is the smallest of all the stockings - no matter who knit the others. The rest all seem to be about the same size, generally.

I am sooo tempted to use your pattern - just to change things up a bit, but I hate to mess with tradition!

So that's what kinari looks like! I've ordered a dress, and the color was in kanji [chinese characters]. When I tried to translate it, I got 'generation', and when I sent my order to the shop, they wrote 'kinari' in the invoice, so it probably has no translation. Now generation has nothing to do with colors, but I guess we can translate it as 'old white'? 'Aged white'? It looks similar to 'antique white', but I think antique white is a bit more yellow-ish.

I have not tried the rose stitch before but if you say it is easy, I'll go with it. Please send pattern for blanket and dress. My first grandbaby is due March, 2009. Thank you.
