I've been dipping into this book since I bought it, though I haven't used it for a project yet. I find her creativity so stimulating, that it doesn't really matter to me whether I actually knit the patterns or not. But I suspect I will have a go at some of the baby socks to see how they work. She is a great teacher--not only in how she uses the baby socks to help you learn but in the clarity of her prose and instructions. BTW she has a series of videos on YouTube that really give you a sense of what she must be like to take a class from.

I guess the problem with this book is that I don't have a desire to change my sock-knitting repertoire all that much. I've flipped through the book, but it doesn't make me want to knit any of them or learn the new "pathways". I'm rather meh about it. but then I knit my socks one way, cuff down on dpns even. This doesn't have the wow factor for me.

Great review Ruth! I've been enjoying looking at socks lately for the small scale use of stitch pattern and construction techniques - they seem like such a great testing ground for something that could be used on a larger scale. I haven't seen this book yet, but now I'd love to lay my hands on a copy to take a look!

That does look like a great addition to the knitting library! I might have to pony up and get it - maybe something to pick up at Stitches this weekend... Thanks for the recommendation!

I now know that my friend, Beth, would love this book. Beth has jumped into knitting by moving from scarf to baby booties to baby hat to a chunky cape for a preschooler and back to baby booties. She says that she likes to do booties because they're a fast project yet a way to learn to knit, read patterns, face challenges as a new knitter etc. A book like this one would fit in with what she is doing and be there when she's ready to go even further with her projects for children -- or herself and other adults! Thanks for the review! Now I know I'll want a copy for myself, and a copy for my friend.
